What Does 2025 Hold?

We, as humans, usually start a new year with at least some measure of optimism. Whether the previous year was, in our estimation, good or bad, a new year is a new beginning of sorts. We even start with plans to make changes to ourselves–some scheme to make ourselves better in some way. So, just over two weeks in, 2025 is in progress. Are we making progress and progress toward what end?

This year I will finally finish my bachelor’s degree. I put it off to get married, put my husband through seminary, start a family, homeschool our daughter, and get her through her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Now it’s my turn. Do I have a reason to finish? Am I looking to start a career at this point in my life? No, I do not have designs on a career, but this is finishing something I started, following through. I’ll be crossing a finish line 30+ years in the making when I graduate in May. Progress.

But what other progress will I see? Hopefully I’ll make progress in my journey to be healthier physically, mentally, and emotionally. Definitely important progress. But more crucial is making progress spiritually. More than anything, the progress I seek, or really crave, is becoming more like my Savior and representing Him better in the community where He has planted me. I long to understand His word and share it with others. I believe He will do a “new thing” in my life as I surrender to His leadership and lordship…

18 “Remember not the former things,
    nor consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I am doing a new thing;
    now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
    and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV)
