Can it be over now?

In one week, America will have some idea of who the next president of our nation will be. And it cannot happen soon enough for me! Because I live in a swing state (this is a relatively new label for where I live), I am bombarded daily with mail pieces, texts, spam phone calls, and ads on various devices for political candidates. And it is downright annoying! Four mailers on average each day which go directly into the bin without being read, 3-4 text messages that are reported as spam and deleted, 6 or more phone calls that go unanswered…a waste of my time and a lot of someone’s money. And this has been going on for months.

I’ve already voted, and I voted my conscience as a Christ follower, not swayed in the least by any of those points of contact from the political machine. Would any of those attempts to sway me been successful if I had read them or spoken with the agents of the candidates who reached out. Absolutely not, and here’s why. Not ONE of those points of contact told me anything about the candidate. They all, without a single exception, pointed out the flaws of the opposition with divisive vitriol. I will let my mind be filled with those things.

I understand that the genie is out of the bottle, so to speak, and this is what we are stuck with for political campaigns. But that is the top reason I ask if it can be over now. I have had more than enough of the inciting of hatred and discord. I want someone to do things differently. That would get my attention!
